CSU Interim Vice President Named to Board of Directors for National Accrediting Agency

LaShondra Peebles, Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management at Chicago State UniversityLaShondra Peebles, Interim Vice President for Enrollment Management at Chicago State University, was recently appointed as a Commissioner for the Board of Directors for the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools (ACICS).

Founded in 1912, ACICS is the largest national accrediting organization of degree granting institutions in the nation. The organization accredits professional, technical and occupational programs, and is one of two national accreditors recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. ACICS currently accredits more than 900 institutions throughout the United States and more than a dozen foreign countries enrolling over 800,000 students.

Peebles will serve a five-year term on a 15-member board that includes 3 appointed commissioners from public institutions. In her role, she will make periodic visits to Washington D.C. to serve as an expert in compliance and accreditation issues and will serve on the Governance Committee and Education Enhancement and Evaluation Committee. Peebles is the first African-American woman to serve as Commissioner in the agency's 100-year history.
